Imola Nagy, Hungary



Imola Nagy is a Hungarian contemporary dancer, graduating from Budapest Contemporary Dance Academy this year.  She danced in several pieces of her academy at Trafó House of Contemporary Arts in Budapest, where she worked as a workshop organiser also. To broaden her horizon she visited ImPuls Tanz- Vienna International Dance Festival three times, learning from Joe Alegado, Corinne Lanselle, Rasmus Ölme, Antony Rizzi, Anouk van Dijk and Peter Jasko. Last year she participated in the festival Deltebre Dansa in Spain, taking workshops from great dancers such as Erick Jimenez, Anton Lachky, Milan Tomásik, Milan Herich, Raakesh Sukesh, Jozef Frucek and Linda Kapetanea, Lali Ayguade, David Zambrano and Konstandina Efthymiadou. She is interested in always finding new movement possibilities of the body through experimenting, while using the strong base of dance techniques such as balett, cunningham or graham. Presently she is spending her Erasmus Student Mobility Programme at KSOT- National School of Dance in Athens.
 
Sensing the body

We start with waking up the body and the center by using the floor and moving in space with set material or improvisation. As we rise up from ground level and feel our weight and consistence more, we are ready to work on a dance material based on release, cunningham and contemporary techniques. In the second part we will work in couples and go deeper in the way we take each other’s body as being a giver and a sensor. We use the weight, touches, moving, lifting, shifting, helping, preventing through a well-structured improvisation. The new senses our body gain through getting touched and moved by the partner generate a new dance experience, which we will improvise with. In the last part we return to the phrase and use it as a river bed for our new senses. I am interested in how the sensing and improvisational work affect and modify the shapes and the perception of the body, especially in a fix context.
