Sybil St. Claire is a Lecturer in Theatre at the University of Central Florida where she specializes in theatre for social change. She is an award winning educator, a union director, an internationally produced and published playwright, and a screenwriter. She is the recipient of the Drew Randall Courage and Passion Award,  the University of Central Florida's Excellence in Research and Creativity and Excellence in Academic Partnerships award, and was voted Professor of the Year at Santa Fe College. Her career as an artist, and as an arts educator, have long been rooted in community engagement and her experience runs the gamut from theatre for the deaf and LGBT agitprop theatre to utilizing theatre as a therapeutic modality with terminally ill pediatric patients, children in foster care, and rape survivors. Though diverse, her work shares a unifying thread, that of empowering others to live their best lives.
 
Theatre of the Oppressed and Collaborative Playmaking: Using Personal Stories as Source Material

Description: Using devising techniques (collaborative playmaking) inspired by Michael Rhod’s “Theatre for Community, Conflict, and Dialogue,” participants will explore creating liberatory (a la August Boal) Theatre of the Oppressed performances using personal stories as source material in this hands-on, how-to workshop.
