Armela Demaj, Albania
Armela Demaj, was born on 11/10/1984 in Permet, Albania. She attended the general high school in Saranda, where she lived since the age of five. She graduated in 2007 from the Academy of Arts in Tirana in theater directing. Is a director, actress, painter, designer and since 2008 Director of Scenic Arts at the Metropol Theater (Theater of the Capital) in Tirana. She practices music, painting, sports and martial arts. Is an activist in the civil society and the association "Progressive Exploring Center " for Roma children, orphans and marginalized. She graduated in directing in 2007 at the Academy of Arts in Tirana. Afterwards has attended specializations in 2010, University of Mass Media, Cairo (Egypt) and 2014 Theater in Education, in Sofia, Bulgaria. Also has experience as a lecturer in University of Arts in Tirana. During 2014 assisted in Roger Wooster workshop for Theater in Education in Tirana. Has worked as director and actress with many different Albanian and foreign theater troops in the Metropolitan Theater, the National Theater, the Theater of Elbasan, Korca, Fier, Macedonia and Kosovo. Also has experience in film as an actress and assistant director, and experience as director at TV Klan, VAT and NTV televisions. Has participated as an actress and director in several national and international theater festivals as "Butrinti 2000" Albania, "Different Theater" Kosovo, "Athens" Greece, "Young Directors" Albania, "Fame Fatale" Kosovo etc. Her career in theater includes a large number of world masterpieces which she interpreted as an actress or run as director such as "Medea" Euripides-leading figure, "Antigone" Sophocles-actress, "Dollhouse" Ibsen -Director, "Trojans" Euripides-actress, "The House of Bernarda Alba" F.G.Lorca- leading figure, "The open Couple" Dario Fo-Director, "Arturo Ui," Bertolt Brecht actress etc. Speaks English, Italian and Greek. She is constantly in search of new forms of theater and art that will bring to the development of theatrical art and communication through it.
“Devising Theater”
Workshop “Devising Theater” method in making theater is one of the most exciting recent developments in theater training. The workshop will research different stimuli in order to approach the creative process of making theater. The improvisation is confined to the creative process. From a culture anthropology element who is present in Balkans, as "mourning for 40 days a dead person, mostly man" how can devise a theater presentation with comic situations.
The workshop will explore the students thoughts and feelings, their ability for improvisation, via a process of generating a short performing presentation (devising theater process) or a short theater presentation. The workshop will include a warm-up, theater games and devising exercises and work towards students collaborating in small groups to devise a short piece, through combination of elements such as rhythm, movement and text, used in a variety of contexts. The session will end with reflection and questions. This work will provide tools to develop a collaborative creation by combining and generating fragments from day to day live (from reading a newspaper) or from customary low, as "mourning until 40 days for a dead man (mostly in Balkans) and how this in today furious rhythm of life causes contradictions and comics situations.
